This project, whose title comes from Noah Baumbach's film Kicking and Screaming,
includes two series of mixed media works on paper where the imagery has
been derived directly from finished paintings from the body of work
collectively titled outre-mère.
While the paintings in outre-mère
aimed to explore the conceptual implications of the tension between
representation and surface abstraction as it relates to memory and
photography, in Paraphrasing Myself, I became interested in
conducting a more formal investigation aimed at testing the limits of
representational abstraction using decorative techniques.
You can purchase 5 by 7 inch digital reproductions of the first set of works from this series here.
